Housed in a special gold foil PCGS S.S. Central America holder. Splashes of vivid reddish-orange iridescence adorn the lustrous surfaces of this otherwise rose-gold example. It seems like only yesterday that Bowers and Merena handled major portions of the S.S. Central America treasure, the majority of which was made up of shiny new 1857-S double eagles. There were other dates and denominations as well, and the present 1847 eagle in AU makes for a grand -- and different -- representative gold piece from that famous treasure hoard.
This lot includes the original "California Gold Rush, History in Your Hands" presentation box and Certificate of Authenticity from the Columbus-America Discovery Group. These supporting material are available to the winning bidder upon request to Stack's Bowers Galleries after the close of the auction.
