Among the many great coins included in our Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo this October-November is this lovely little piece from the days of the California Gold Rush. It is an octagonal gold dollar, identified as BG-501 in the standard reference for California fractional gold coins, by Walter Breen and Ron Gillio. It is graded MS-63 by PCGS.

This week’s Stack’s Bowers Currency iAuction features 151 lots of United States and world currency. Among many great notes offered this week is a Fr.52 1880 $2 Legal Tender Note graded Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ by PMG (lot 22657). The crisp note features a boldly printed large brown spiked Treasury seal and the engraved signatures of Treasury officials Bruce and Wyman.
