You Are Invited to be Part of the Stack’s Bowers Official ANA World’s Fair of Money Auction in August 2015

When the bright sun of August bakes the land from coast to coast, that’s a sign for numismatists to prepare for the annual summer ANA World’s Fair of Money Convention, held this year in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, a familiar venue for thousands of collectors. As an Official Auctioneer of this year’s ANA Convention, Stack’s Bowers Galleries offers a selection of great coins ranging from readily collectable pieces to great rarities, in copper, nickel, silver, and gold. From colonials to commemoratives, this sale has it all. Beyond that, our staff will be on hand from start to finish of the convention. Come meet, greet, and talk with us.

1795 Flowing Hair BB-18 Silver Dollar, Superb Gem Mint State, Finest Known

By Q. David Bowers, Founder

A Remarkable Early Dollar

This memorable Flowing Hair dollar was front row center in Catherine Bullowa’s sale “including my personal treasures” held on December 4, 2005. Today, graded by PCGS as MS-66, it is unique at this lofty level. It was the cover coin in the Bullowa sale and was described as: “Very choice to gem Uncirculated. Prooflike surfaces with deep mirror effect. Perfectly centered, fully and beautifully struck. Gorgeous bluish-purple perfectly balanced color. Superb example.”

Our upcoming August ANA world coin auction offers quite diverse European coinage, and today’s preview features an exceptional piece of English hammered coinage. It was struck by the English king Edward III, who is best remembered for his military success and his reclamation of royal authority after his father’s ruinous reign. The famous Hundred Years War began in 1337 after Edward III reasserted his claim to the French crown.

Summertime in Numismatics

Summertime in Numismatics

By Q. David Bowers, Founder

“Summertime and the Living is Easy,” as the song from Porgy and Bess goes. Welcome to my latest blog set in the twilight of the month of July. While summer is vacation time for many, numismatics knows no season, although it does slow down. While no figures are available, I might guess that 10% to 15% of our clients are off to National Parks, visiting tourist sites and cities, cruising, or somewhere other than their homes and offices. Today, keeping in touch by email is the reality, including bidding live at auctions, so no one needs to miss much.
