Description

1848 Liberty Eagle. AU-58 (PCGS).

An unsung rarity, the 1848 is a much scarcer No Motto Eagle than an original mintage of 145,484 pieces might imply. This is one of the nicer examples that this cataloger has seen in recent years, a coin with handsome orange-gold color and much of the original semi-prooflike finish still in evidence. Softness of strike around the obverse periphery is a very common attribute for a Ten-Dollar gold coin from the 1840s, and the detail does sharpen considerably toward the centers on both sides. A problem-free Choice AU that is sure to appeal to the advanced gold collector.
