1850-O Seated Liberty Silver Dollar. AU-53 (PCGS).
Otherwise brilliant, silver-white surfaces reveal a blush of copper-russet toning on the reverse that is confined to the upper-right border. The strike is uncommonly sharp for the issue, and only at Liberty's head on the obverse do we see characteristic softness of detail. Ample satin luster remains despite the presence of light wear, and there are only small, wispy abrasions from a short stint in circulation. One of only four New Orleans Mint issues in the Seated Dollar series, the 1850-O (40,000 coins struck) is rarer than the 1846-O and much rarer than the 1859-O and 1860-O.
Pedigree: From the Horseshoe Collection.
