1842 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar. MS-64 (PCGS).
Condition Rarity 1842 Seated Dollar
The 1842 is one of the most frequently encountered Seated Dollars from the 1840s, but the vast majority of survivors are circulated to one degree or another. Even a low-end Unc in MS-61 or MS-62 can take many years to acquire, while the rare MS-64s number among the finest examples known to PCGS. Solidly in the Condition Census for the issue, this originally toned piece exhibits dominant pinkish-gray patina to both sides. The peripheries are a bit more vivid thanks to halos of olive-blue iridescence. Frosty in texture with a suitably bold strike by the standards of the type, this important condition rarity belongs in another advanced Seated Dollar set.
