1847-O Liberty Eagle. Winter Variety One. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC.
The 1847-O is the most plentiful No Motto eagle struck in the New Orleans Mint, and circulated examples appear quite regularly at auction in the market of the early 21st century. The coin we are offering here, however, displays pleasingly original (yes, we said original) "skin" to both sides, and it is a rare find for a pre-Civil War Southern gold coin in today's market, as such. Lovely olive-gold color throughout, with much of the satiny mint luster discernible as the coin rotates under a light. Sharply struck, lightly worn and generally free of singularly distracting abrasions. Very, very appealing.
Pedigree: From the Rajj Collection. Acquired by our consignor from Stack's Public Auction Sale of October 1989, lot 1881. The paper lot tag from the sale is included with the coin.
