1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar. B-9, BB-13. Rarity-4. Bowers Die State II. Two Leaves. VF-20 (PCGS).
This die state -- which Bowers, 1993, describes as "rare" -- is attributable by fairly bold clashmarks (as struck) from the eagle's wings and the wreath on the reverse in the obverse field around Liberty's portrait. A fully original example, both sides of this piece exhibit peripheral highlights of olive and reddish-russet colors to otherwise warm dove-gray patina. Nicely centered in strike, with moderate, yet even wear that does little more than define the grade. There are no troublesome abrasions to report.
Pedigree: From the Jarapendo Collection. Accompanied by an old paper envelope from Stack's.
