1871 Seated Liberty Quarter. Briggs 1-A. MS-61 (PCGS).
The 1s in the date have long serifs. Light silver with satiny luster on the obverse while the reverse sports some russet toning in the fields. Well struck for this date, with no surface issues and a handsome coin to study for the collector. Rare in any mint state grade, and overlooked as common despite the low mintage of 118,200 pieces.
Pedigree: From Stack's Public Auction Sale of May 1990, lot 466.
