1723 Wood's Hibernia Farthing. Martin 2.1-Bc.4. Rarity-4. DEI. GRATIA. REX. MS-62 BN (NGC).
A lovely example of this popular and eagerly sought Colonial era type, both sides exhibit an overall smooth, glossy, mostly reddish-brown sheen. A few swirls of slightly deeper patina are out of the way in isolated peripheral areas, and there are no significant abrasions in evidence. Virtually full in detail from an expertly centered and uncommonly well rendered strike, the outward appearance of this piece is suggestive of at least a Select Mint State grade. At the BU level, as designated by NGC, this is certainly one of the nicest and most appealing Hibernia farthings of any date or die marriage that we have offered in recent years.
