Description

1767-A French Colonies Sou, or 12 Deniers. Paris Mint. Breen-700. No RF Counterstamp. AU-55 (PCGS).

185.19 grains. Glossy deep chestnut brown with peeks of mint color remaining around some design elements. Careful scrutiny reveals some violet and pale blue tones that suggest a long-ago wiping, but the originality was sufficient for grading by PCGS. Well struck and well centered, no major marks, a few scattered black flecks here and there. The reverse shows two bold sets of clash marks on the left side. Far finer than usually encountered both in terms of sharpness and underlying planchet quality.

PCGS#: 158651

Pedigree: From the Ted L. Craige Collection.
