Description

1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.17-Gc.22, W-Unlisted (W-13120 for similar type). Rarity-3. MS-62 BN (PCGS).

112.6 grains. Somewhat glossy deep golden-brown surfaces exhibit soft underlying luster and some central ticks on both sides, there when struck and not at all distracting to the naked eye. We note a patch of scaly black detritus at the top of the effigy's head and at GRA that engages the viewer's eye under low magnification; to the unaided eye it appears to be toning. A similar area is seen at the bottom of the reverse.

PCGS#: 180

Pedigree: From the Ted L. Craige Collection. Earlier from New Netherlands Coin Co., Inc., November 1962. Purchased from Richard Picker at an undisclosed time. Paper envelopes with attribution notes and New Netherlands and Picker envelopes included.
