Description

1723 Wood's Hibernia Farthing. Martin 3.24-Bc.2, W-12350. Rarity-8. DEI. GRATIA. REX. MS-62 BN (PCGS).

61 grains. An extremely rare die pairing with two or three known, with notes on the original envelopes memorializing its discovery. The obverse is the plate coin for the Sydney F. Martin reference the Hibernia Coinage of William Wood (1722-1724) and apparently remains prohibitively rare today. Enticing for the grade with satin tan luster on both sides, a sharp strike throughout and there are no specks or spots. Furthermore, the planchet was smooth for this issue with no copper fissures or subsequent toning problems. One of the rarest die pairings in the series and certain to attract high collector interest, as once this piece is sold another may not be offered for years or even decades, unless new examples are forthcoming from existing collections.

PCGS#: 176

Pedigree: From the Ted L. Craige Collection. Paper envelope included.
