Long before Matt discovered coins, he knew he had the
collecting gene. As early as he can remember, it was always
something: rocks in his younger years, and then baseball, basketball and
football cards took over as his appreciation for sports developed in early
adolescence. Along the way, the
introduction to small groups of coins saved by family members would spark a
Not long after getting the coin “bug,” eBay played a
huge role in the development of the career side of his aspirations. While selling rocks or cards at a profit was
virtually impossible, the fledgling online auction venue presented real
opportunities for a teenager to make some money in coins. Matt was able to do
this by offering a pleasing presentation and excellent customer service. Since that time, Matt has spent nearly 15
years at several prominent international auction houses, where he honed his
craft, never forgetting his humble foundation: a commitment to customer service
that brought his earliest successes.
Still a collector, Matt appreciates a broad spectrum
of numismatic disciplines. While the
diversity of world and ancient coins receives the majority of Matt’s day-to-day
attention, he still frequently finds himself searching for additions to his
collection of medals and tokens depicting George Washington. Because of their iconography, Matt also has a
growing collection of Latin American coins. Depicting suns with faces, soaring
mountains and native landscapes, he believes this area of coins parallels the
beauty of painted art more closely than any other.
