1785 Bar Copper in MS-64 Brown Being Sold by Stack’s Bowers Galleries in June 2021 Costa Mesa Auction

This week’s Coins in Motion Highlight is a great coin, a Bar “cent” produced. in 1785. Although collectors refer to this as a “cent,” the coin is too lightweight to be valued in circulation as a cent. This scarce type features a bold USA on the front, and 13 lines on the back to represent the 13 colonies. One might notice that the USA type is very similar to buttons that would have been worn by soldiers in the Continental Army. It is interesting to note that these Bar coppers were actually produced in England, possibly at the Birmingham Mint. At any rate, these items are immensely popular and this example should bring strong bids in the Stack’s Bowers Galleries June 2021 Costa Mesa Auction.

Coins in Motion seeks to enable collectors, bidders, and consignors to accurately appreciate how Stack’s Bowers Galleries coins look in hand. Ultra-high resolution animations depict how luster moves over the coin’s surfaces, while the rotating motion allows for any possible imperfections to be revealed. Stack’s Bowers Galleries is proud to have acquired Coins in Motion. To view our YouTube Playlist dedicated to Coins in Motion, click here. Videos are added weekly.
