Frosty Deep Mirror Prooflike Carson City Morgan Dollar for Sale in August 2021

The Morgan silver dollar series is a popular starting-point for new collectors and offers a number of key date and conditional rarities. Shown here is an 1885-CC Morgan dollar, from the smallest Carson City mintage for the series. There were only 228,000 coins produced in Carson City, Nevada in 1885, with an estimated 36,000 surviving today. Due to a higher survival rate, the 1885-CC is not as rare as some other Carson City issues, including the 1889-CC and 1893-CC. Among Carson City Morgan dollars, the 1885 falls in the middle of the pack when we focus on scarcity. When it is found graded NGC MS-67 DPL, it becomes very rare. At PCGS, there are only two coins that are graded MS-67 DMPL. At NGC, the present coin is the sole finest. This top-pop 1885-CC Morgan Dollar is part of Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the ANA, taking place August 17-20, 2021.

Coins in Motion seeks to enable collectors, bidders, and consignors to accurately appreciate how Stack’s Bowers Galleries coins look in hand. Ultra-high resolution animations depict how luster moves over the coin’s surfaces, while the rotating motion allows for any possible imperfections to be revealed.
