Sixty-six years ago, on April 23, 1955, Stack’s conducted a sale of Several Important Consignments of United States, Foreign Gold, Silver and Copper Coins. The sale had 1,262 lots of coins and currency. However, what I most noticed about the catalog is this message, found on the inside front cover. It reads:

In that period we have been privileged to sell fabulous collections as well as many modest ones—but as our organization is devoted to every type of collecting we will never lose sight of the ‘Little Fellow.’ Any collection which is valued from a few thousand dollars to several hundred thousand dollars, each receives the SAME COURTEOUS TREATMENT. STACK’S has unquestionably one of the largest staffs of experts in all fields, whether United States, Foreign, Ancient Coins, Medals and Decorations, Paper Money—fact is, even the ‘Lowly token’ is catalogued expertly."
