The World Currency Department of Stack’s Bowers Galleries is proud to offer the catalog for our 2019 August ANA Auction, held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.  Click here to view the sale online. A few of the scarcest notes in the field of World Paper collecting can be found within these pages. Some are the finest known, and in a few cases, are the only notes known for their types. This is by far one of the most highlight intensive World Paper catalogs we have offered in quite a while, and collectors and dealers alike should prepare for competitive bidding.

Our offering of pieces from the country of India is particularly strong in highlights. A complete Haj Pilgrim Issue set is available, split into three lots with Pick R1 to R4 in lot 30223, the R5 in 30224, and the R6 in lot 30225. Lot 30226 offers an ultra rare UNC 2 Rupees, 8 Annas in a PMG CU64 holder, a piece that we are offering for the first time. An astonishing 10,000 Rupees Specimen (P-50As) will be offered in lot 30239, a note we think is likely the only known example as no others are registered on the PMG population report. Lot 30238 offers, in issued form, the finest PMG Graded Pick 49a 5000 Rupees, graded VF30. This high denomination note, and the aforementioned Indian lots, will surely be standouts in even the most advanced collection of Indian paper money or a cabinet of paper money in general.

We present in this catalog a very strong showing in Philippines, including a few 500 Pesos pieces. One such example is the 1906 Silver Certificate (P-33c) in lot 30378. Additional 500 Pesos highlights can be found in lot 30390 (Pick 67) and lot 30391 (Pick 72).

A stunning and incredibly rare finest graded and fully issued GEA 500 Rupien with Excellent Embossing is found in lot 30208. A vibrant Pick 1 AU58 Haj Pilgrimage 10 Riyals is featured in lot 30436. A private collection of Greenland 1911 issue low serial numbers is offered in lots 30213 and 30214.

As is typical in our catalogs, there is a strong showing of Canadian currency with a rare 1831 Upper Canada 1 Dollar in lot 30105 and an 1864 Upper Canada 4 Dollar Issued note in lot 30106. Impressive Banque d’Hochelaga Waterlow specimens are found in lot 30107 and 30108. An always popular 1935 $1000 from the CBNC in issued form is available in lot 30100.

Some pieces originally from the Eldorado Collection of Colombian paper money will be offered in this sale, complemented by some excellent Colombian pieces from other private collections. One such piece is the rare Republica de Colombia remainder sheet in lot 30121 that rivals the example previously offered in the Eldorado Collection. Other notable areas of interest are our Bahamas section featuring many high grade issued pieces and beautiful specimen groups, and our Belgium section with many single digit serial number pieces including an elusive Pick 139 Super Serial Number One #0001 A 001 found in lot 30036.
