Several prominent Union Civil War generals are featured on United States Treasury Notes from the series of 1890 and 1891. Our latest edition of "Better Know Your Notes" looks at the portrait seen on the $5 denomination — General George H. Thomas.

Here is this week's Test Your Knowledge!  Can you Name that Note? Check out Facebook or Twitter on Monday for the answer or wait until next week's email newsletter.  Good luck!

Though the live sessions of the Stack’s Bowers 2016 January New York International Auction are about to close, there are still many numismatic opportunities to be found in the Internet Only Sessions. A large variety of ancient and world coins can all be found here, with this highlight found in the Internet Session, E, starting Wednesday January 13 at 10:00 AM PT. A plethora of other treasures can be found in both Internet sessions, so be sure to check them both!

Stack’s Bowers Galleries will feature a lovely Mint State 1867-S quarter dollar in its Rarities Night auction session at the official auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo in March. Warm amber-rose tones glow from the centers with deeper twilight hues in the peripheries. The fields are satiny and matte-like on each side, pleasantly smooth and untroubled.
