Did you know Stack’s Bowers Galleries is featuring the Windy City Collection of high denomination notes in our August 2020 auction?

The Windy City Collection of high denomination notes, a culmination of three generations of currency enthusiasts, had a humble beginning before the start of World War I.  The goal of each generation was to improve upon the rarity and quality of the prior generation’s holdings.  Notes were bought and sold over the century, always working to make the collection better. Our consignor remembers what a treat it was when his father brought him and his sibling to the bank vault (where the notes were always kept). Twice a year they would peruse and scour over the collection in the vault viewing room.

The new millennium and the transition of the collection from the second to the third generation also coincided with the advent of third-party grading that allowed collectors to have their paper money certified. The Windy City Collection resulted from decades of patience and fortitude and now contains some of the finest $500 and $1000 Federal Reserve Notes known. Having met his ultimate collecting goals, the consignor now brings it to auction so that future collecting generations can enjoy owning and preserving these timeless pieces.
