This week's featured ancient coin highlight from our Official Auction of the ANA World's Fair of Money offers an opportunity to present not only a rare and important Roman issue but also introduce a few  interesting selections coming up in the August sale.

The inaugural preview for the upcoming January New York International Numismatic Convention Auction hosted by Stack’s Bowers Galleries is an exciting coin. The Decadrachms of Syracuse are widely considered to be some of the finest pieces of numismatic art in antiquity if not in the entire history of numismatics.

Though the live sessions of the Stack’s Bowers 2015 Chicago ANA Auction close on Friday are still many numismatic opportunities to be found in the Internet-Only Session. Ancient coins, world coins and medals can all be found in the Internet Session D, starting Monday August 17th at 10:00 AM PT. A plethora of hidden treasures can be found here, such as a remarkable collection of Islamic Kingdoms gold coinage.

The official Stack’s Bowers Galleries auction for the ANA World’s Fair of Money is nearly here, and we have a final ancient coin to preview -- a historically significant piece and a terrific rarity. This piece is deserving of a word not often thrown around in numismatics: unique. The Solidus described here is truly one of a kind.

As we look toward the August ANA World’s Fair of Money, we are thrilled to begin highlighting some numismatic treasures we will offer in our official auction. The coin selected for this preview has an exceptional lineage of brilliant numismatic curators. Originally held in the Lawrence R. Stack Collection of Ancient Greek Coins, this piece was subsequently purchased by none other than Q. David Bowers.

Our Stack's Bowers Galleries New York International Numismatic Convention live Ancient coin sessions will take place on Friday evening. Once the excitement of the live sessions are over, an array of interesting Ancient coins will be still be avaialble for bidding in our Internet-only session. Today's preview coin, at first glance, appears to be a fairly common gold Solidus of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I. Closer examination reveals telling differences in style, and minor variances in the legend.

Over the past few weeks, Chris Chatigny, Kyle Ponterio, Kent Ponterio, and I have been giving in-depth looks at highlights from our January NYINC auction in our blog page and in our weekly newsletter. With the sale just a week or so away, we give an overview and mention a few more important items.
