​On May 20, 1927, famed aviator Charles Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Airfield in New York to fly across the Atlantic in the first-ever solo, non-stop trans-Atlantic flight. Flying in his airplane, the Spirit of Saint Louis, Lindbergh's flight took 33.5 hours and covered more than 3,600 miles.​

Over the course of the day, May 19th, we sold 128 lots for a total of $25,684,136. This marked the first session of what would become the most valuable coin collection ever sold at auction. Found in Lot 40393, this note is graded by PMG as Fine 15 and is the only note of its kind that has been certified. ​​On April 1, 1950, Stack's sold 558 lots in a 24 page catalog. The sale was hosted in our New York Showroom and was a great success. Since 1950, a lot has changed in the world and in the numismatic industry. However, one thing that has not changed is what the final page of the catalog said: "Stack's sales are always successful sales."
