​Did You Know that 40 years ago, in March 1981, our firm completed its record-setting series of four auctions featuring the Garrett Collection, sold for the Johns Hopkins University? The sale of this collection realized a total of $25 million, a record at the time for the most valuable collection ever sold. In addition, in the November 1979 Part I auction, a 1787 Brasher doubloon with EB on wing sold for a record-breaking $725,000, a record that would stand for nearly a decade.

​Did you know that Stack’s Bowers Galleries is opening a new rare coin gallery in historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Located at 1735 Market Street on the corner of 18th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard, the new gallery is situated in the heart of Center City, in the midst of the area’s best dining, shopping, and entertainment. It is just blocks away from such iconic landmarks as the Comcast Center, Reading Terminal, and beautiful Philadelphia City Hall. It is also a 15-minute walk to the 30th Street Amtrak station, granting convenient access to collectors across the entire Northeast. Renovations are currently under way and the firm hopes to open the 1735 Market Street storefront to collectors in late summer 2021.

​Did you know that during the final year of World War II, on February 19, 1945, United States Marines invaded the Pacific Island of Iwo Jima? The island was barren with the exception of Japanese artillery, but the United States saw it as essential to their strategy to win the war in the Pacific. With control of Iwo Jima, the United States would be able to construct airstrips and launch an attack on Japan,  only 600 miles away. Perhaps the most famous image of the invasion was taken atop Mount Suribachi as six men raised the American Flag.
