The Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the March 2018 Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo was one of the most dynamic and impressive Baltimore sales in recent memory. The entire event realized a total over $24.6 million, including $14.2 million in U.S. coins sold across six sessions.  The significant offering of fresh and premium quality material is reflective of the Baltimore Expo auctions, which are held by Stack’s Bowers Galleries three times per year. All prices realized to follow include the 20% buyer’s premium.

Another record was shattered in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ March 2018 Baltimore Auction as the 17th known example of the famed (2000)-P Sacagawea dollar / Washington quarter mule crossed the auction block. Offered in lot 2382 and certified MS-67 by NGC, the newly discovered piece saw fierce bidding activity up to $192,000, establishing a new public auction record for this rare modern Mint error. This new price record significantly surpassed the previous record of $158,625, set by Stack’s Bowers Galleries in their August 2012 Philadelphia ANA Sale.

The four sessions of Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ much anticipated Official Currency Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Spring Expo realized $10,440,026 (all prices include the buyer’s fee).

The Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio bi-annual Hong Kong auctions are always highly anticipated and heavily attended.  The firm’s most recent April 2-5, 2018, auction was no exception, featuring the “Q. David Bowers/R.B. White” Collection of Chinese Copper Coins, as well as other major coin and currency rarities. In total, the Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio April 2018 Hong Kong auction realized in excess of $11 million (all prices include the standard buyer’s premium).

Stack’s Bowers Galleries is pleased to announce the sale of the finest known 1913 Liberty Head nickel graded Proof 66 by PCGS and pedigreed to the Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection. In 1996 this specimen was the first coin in the world to cross the million-dollar threshold.
