Manning Garrett
A collector of all types since childhood, Manning Garrett became a part time dealer in 2006. He earned a degree in corporate finance from Clemson University in 2007 and later a Masters of Accountancy from Western Carolina University. Before becoming a full time coin dealer, Manning worked as an accountant for a regional bank in upstate South Carolina. While there, he was the go-to expert for any odd paper money that occasionally came over the teller counter.
In 2009 he formed Old Currency, LLC, a firm that specialized in working with non-collectors to value and sell rare paper money directly to collectors and through auctions. While he has handled all types and price ranges of currency, high value National Bank Notes became his specialty. Many of the rarest and most heralded National Bank discoveries of the past ten years trace their pedigrees back to Manning. In the summer of 2014 his auction company, Manifest Auctions, held its first sale. In February of 2016, Stack’s Bowers Galleries acquired Manifest Auctions and Manning joined Stack’s Bowers to expand their currency division and online presence.
Manning is a former board member of the South Carolina Numismatic Association. He is also a life member or member of more than ten other local and national numismatic organizations. Manning and his wife, Courtney, have two young daughters named Waverly and Cora.
