Chris Ortega has worked in the auction industry since 2003,
gaining experience as a bi-lingual auctioneer and personal property appraiser.
He began his career working with various government agencies, state and local
municipalities, and national consumer banks conducting on-site appraisal
valuations and liquidation auctions.
In 2010 he took a break to launch a luxury boutique
specializing in high-end designer goods. To expand the business he successfully
completed the Diamond Grading Course at the Gemological Institute of America
and utilized digital marketing to further grow the business. While the business
was a success, Chris decided to use his new-found expertise to return to a
career in the auction industry.
Since 2017, Chris has served as an auctioneer and
numismatist at Stack’s Bowers Galleries. He is responsible for identifying and
evaluating all incoming consignments, collections, and preparing them for
auction. His favorite coin motifs are the Draped Bust and Gobrecht silver
dollar designs. Highlights of his career as an auctioneer include the sale of
two 1804 silver dollars, one from the Pogue Collection and one from the Larry
H. Miller Collection, as well as an 1894-S Barber dime. Each of these numismatic
rarities realized an excess of one million dollars.
Outside of the office Chris enjoys jogging and
exercising, researching wrist watches, and spending time with his family.
